Breed Information
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
are delightfully affectionate, playful and intelligent little dogs
that repay their owners with an endearing devotion.
Cavaliers make excellent pets as they are very
happy, loving and devoted dogs. It would be difficult to find a small
dog with a more wonderful temperament. As a pet and companion, the
Cavalier has NO equal!
Cavaliers have a natural coat that requires no
trimming, long silky ears, and large, soulful eyes that can melt a
heart of stone! More than one person has described them as looking
like puppies all of their lives!
As a breeder of these lovely dogs, you can
imagine the stories I have heard along with the many requests for
color and sex of a new puppy.
The most popular request for a puppy goes something like this.....
"We want a female"
I in turn reply, "were you planning on breeding your girl?"
No, but we only want a female.
I ask, "Why"
"I don't know we have always had females."
Does this sound familiar? If so, I feel as a breeder it is some what
my responsibility to help to educate the average pet owner that
"Little Boys Make Great Pets too!!"
While I love my girls, my boys have always been the first ones for
attention and the last ones to leave. Over the years people have been
under the impression that male dogs display "Alpha"
behaviors such as humping or lifting their legs, and that females are
easier to get along with and less work. I find this amusing and sad at
the same time.
These are such sweet little dogs, but at times dominance problems do
arise. This is mainly between the girls. There is always a Queen
"B" as I affectionately call her. All bow down to her even
my boys. When another female tries to show any type of dominance,
intervention is needed. The thing about females is they never forget!
Cavaliers are available in four colors:
- Blenheim - red and white
- Tri - black and white with tan highlights
- Black and Tan - mostly black with tan
markings
- Ruby - solid red
